How do I apply for an allotment?

Roughly how long will it take to get an allotment

Currently the waiting is approximately 18 months +

Is there parking at the allotments?

Yes, there is limited parking available at both Spring Gardens allotments and Watercress Gardens.  Vehicles are only allowed in the car park while the plot holder is in attendance.  Overnight parking is not allowed.

 

Can I erect a shed/greenhouse on my plot?

Yes but permission must be sought from the Council first. Buildings must not be larger than 6ft x 8ft and should not cast shade on neighbouring plots (Refer to Allotment rules for further information on erecting buildings). Water butts must also be installed.

 

Is there a water supply at the allotments?

There are water taps situated at various points around the allotments, however, plot holders who have erected a shed/greenhouse must install a water butt and use this as a water supply in the first instance. Hosepipes and trickle hoses are permitted but only when the plot holder is present.The mains water supply is switched off during the winter months (November - March).

 

Can I bring my dog to my allotment?

Yes but they must be kept under control and must not foul or cause a nuisance or present a health and safety issue to other persons whilst on the allotment site.

 

Can I erect fruit cages?

Yes but they must not exceed 2.3 metres in height, be well-constructed and maintained. Concrete footings are not allowed.  Please check fruit cages regularly and ensure their integrity to prevent birds from being trapped inside.

 

Do I need to pay for the wood chip/bark and manure?

There is no charge for the wood chip, however, there is a charge for the manure.  The cost is £1.25 per wheelbarrow load. Payment is to be made to Alresford Allotment Society, sort code: 30-99-71, account number: 02752705.

Can I swap my unwanted seeds / plants?

Yes. At Spring Gardens allotments there is a seed swap box to far from the car parking area.  Next to it a table where unwanted pots/plants/gardening equipment etc can be left. Please kindly remove any items if not taken within a week.

 

Is there anywhere to dispose of green waste on site?

Yes. The owner of the watercress beds has allowed us to use the large green waste pit situated at the south west corner of the Spring Gardens site. This is for green waste only. All other rubbish must be taken off site for disposal.
