Committee Members

Tony Mott - Chairman

Retirement brought me to Alresford over ten years ago and I was fortunate enough to secure a plot at the allotments in 2018.  I find Spring Gardens a quiet oasis away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  As well as enjoying the company of fellow allotmenteers I have, for the last 18 months, had the opportunity of being Chairman, which I have thoroughly enjoyed.  I'm a keen angler and when not not on the river bank or working my plot, I enjoy nothing more that a pint or two of real ale at the Flower Pots pub in Cheriton.

Nigel Webb - Secretary

I have lived in Alresford and the surrounding area for the last 30 years.  My wife and I were lucky enough to get a half plot after just under 4 years on the waiting list.  We both enjoy working on our plot and take great pleasure in growing vegetables through the spring and summer months.  It is a very relaxing and enjoyable community.

Tim Dodd

I took on Plot 28S towards the end of 2023 and spent the first few months preparing it for last year's full growing season.  I decided to go for raised beds for ease of cultivation and recently erected a platform on which to grow strawberries - as far away from the hungry slugs as possible.  Thinking long-term, I planted 20 crowns of asparagus, which I'm hoping will yield lots of delicious spears for years to come.  I'm definitely not a proficient gardener but I love pottering around there, watching things spring up and enjoying the wildlife, fresh air and friendliness of our allotments.

Russell Waterton

I have lived in Alresford since 2006 and was lucky enough to get one of the new allotments at the far end of 2008'ish.  Apart from attending my allotment, I am also interested in watching rugby, motorcycling and drinking beer.  I am recently retired from the Fire Brigade and looking forward to many years growing produce.

Dawn Othen - Treasurer

I've had my allotment for 5 years. I love cooking, preserving and making ice-cream - is I grow a lot of herbs, apples and soft fruit.  I like just pottering at the allotment and watching the wildlife there.  Besides gardening I enjoy all sorts of other outdoor activities - cycling, hashing, camping, climbing trees. But, despite my name, I rarely start early - I don't usually get up until I've finished the Guardian cryptic crossword.

Barry Davis

My wife, Karen, and I were lucky to get a small plot towards the end of 2024.  We are really looking forward to the year ahead and enjoying time on our patch.  I retired from work a few years ago from a job in IT.  I like to keep fit and run regularly.  I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, playing bridge and being out in the open for walks in our lovely countryside.  We have three children that all left the nest a long time ago and I have two grandchildren.

Jo Downie

I am a busy of mum of two boys who are also 'helping' me down at our allotment, which we were fortunate to obtain at the end of 2023.  I enjoy gardening so much that I have also made it my full time job. I am a keen, albeit mature student of horticulture and have steadily been making my way through the various RHS courses.  I love spending time at our plot and watching my children pick and eat the raspberries and strawberries we grow. I am very much looking forward to my new role on the committee.

Brigid Taylor

I'm married to Arthur and we have two children, Eloise and Freddie. We took on a plot at the new site at the end of 2024.  I have always loved gardening, wildlife and nature and am delighted to now have the chance to fulfil my dream of a productive veg garden.  Aside from gardening, I am interested in travel, arts and crafts and have a busy career in the property/development world.
